LPT: If you are trying out an expensive makeup/nail appointment, ask for a “sample”

I have been going to this very fancy place for my nails. It is about three times more expensive than I can actually afford. I told them I was going all out a day before my wedding, and wanted to try out a different nail style. I told them I wanted to sample it a day before so I could make sure I like it.

They did the nails for free, and I ended up changing the style anyway. It saved me about $150, which I believe is the appointment fee. I then went ahead to book it with the same people for the next day and they got me my dream nails done.

This place was expensive but worth it. I was a bit on the fence before but I got to try it out for free. Do this for anything and everything that you can’t afford. I had previously done it for extensions too and was able to get them for almost 50% off on the first appointment.

This will also send a signal that you are doing this for a special occasion. If you can afford it, and you’re already burning a hole in your pocket, ask for a discount. They might not give you anything, but they might just give you free service too.

Edit: I realise I didn’t articulate this very well. I think you can ask for a sample for other appointments, not just makeup and nails. The concept is something you can try out, on the house. I had never heard of it before, and I find it a clever way to get expensive services for cheap.
