I stole 500 pounds of Popeyes chicken during the chicken sandwich shortage

Back in 2019, when Popeyes first released the chicken sandwich and it went viral, I knew I had to get my hands on some. I heard that some locations were still selling it, even though it was technically sold out, as long as you knew the right people. I worked as a dishwasher at a local restaurant, and one of our line cooks was the brother of the GM at our town's only Popeyes.

He approached me with a plan. He wanted me to come to work an hour early the next day, and then he'd give me directions. I agreed because I just wanted that damn chicken.

The next day, rolls around, I come in early, and he gives me a cardboard box, wrapped in plastic, and bungee cords. He tells me to put it in the back of my car, and drives with me to the location. When we get there, the GM (and my coworker's brother), lets us in the back door. He shows us to the walk-in fridge, and there, sitting on the bottom shelf, are 500 sealed, breaded, and off the bone chicken breasts. There was also a 50-pound bag of breading on the floor, 3 sealed bags of spicy and regular mayo, a bunch of pickles, and a box of buns.

We loaded up the box in the back of my car, took a selfie with the loot, and drove back to work. I had to park in a spot where no one could see in the back of my car, and let a few people from work help me carry all the chicken up to my apartment. We spent the next 3 weeks, breaded, frying, and eating the best damn chicken sandwiches I've ever had.

Edit: I know I was an idiot for doing this, but it was just too tempting to pass up. I 100% knew what I was doing was wrong, and the consequences it would have had on me if I had been caught. I still feel bad about it. Also, just because the chicken was sitting in the fridge doesn't mean that it was going to waste. The whole point was there was a shortage, because they didn't have the supply to keep up with the crazy demand. If we had gotten caught, I would have lost my job, and probably faced charges. My coworkers brother would have lost his job, with the possibility of charges as well. The restaurant would have lost money in unrealized sales, and lost the trust of its customers. All in all, not a good situation for anyone involved. And I know it seems ridiculous that I'm just now posting this, off of my high school seniors new chambers account that he made so he and his friends would stop disappearing on their main accounts. This is also something that I've never told anyone outside of the people involved, so it feels nice to get it off my chest.

Edit 2: I'm not really sure how to feel about this. I was just a stupid kid who did a stupid thing and it blew up. I guess I should just enjoy it, and not worry too much about what people are saying.
