My mother was never the best person. She always let her addictions control her, and never prioritized the care of myself or my little brother.

I remember one night I woke up to the sound of my mother gasping and choking in the other room. I rushed to look at her and she was dead.

My mom never had a lot of money and she didn't have a lot of jobs. To make money she would do pretty much anything that paid.

A few days after my mom died, a man knocked on my door. He said he was my dad so I let him in. He confirmed that my mom was his wife and I was his daughter. When he talked about my mother it was rough to see. He was overly emotional and it really did make me sad to see a man cry. But then when I brought up he had two kids (my brother and me) he paused and said, "You're not my daughter... am I right?" And then he got up off the couch and left.

I never saw him again.
