I used to secretly wipe my grandma’s cigarettes to get her to quit

I (24F) used to live with my grandparents. My grandma (70sF) is an awful smoker and chain smoker. She would leave cigarette butts in the bathroom trash, coffee cans full of cigarette butts on the front and back porch, and smoke cigarettes in her car. It really pisses me off how sloppy she is with her cigarettes. I tried talking to her multiple times but she would get angry.

I had a feeling she was just being stubborn and didn’t want to quit. So for years I have been secretly wiping her cigarettes to get her to quit. I would find the full packs of cigarettes she had hidden and wet a paper towel and wipe the cigarettes. You have to be careful or the cigarettes will get soggy, you just have to get them damp. I have been doing this for years because she kept getting cigarettes no matter how many times I tried to throw them away. I guess she never noticed that her cigarettes tasted different and she kept smoking them. She still chain smokes but I at least feel like I’m getting her to smoke less and inhale less nicotine. I feel like this could be considered elder abuse but I feel like it’s more helping her and she is stubborn and won’t quit any other way.
