I stole someone’s name when I was young and have used it as my own ever since

I’m not sure why I did it, I think it was a joke at first but now I’m 47 and have been using someone elses name for the majority of my life.

It was obviously a nickname, Michael became Mick, and was jokingly shortened through my friend group to DangerMick. With the whole “Danger is my middle name” t shirt craze at the time.

Anyway, I got called DangerMick and when I was 18 at college I snuck into a frat party because I didn’t have my ID. I was asked for my name by one of the brothers, who I didn’t know, and didn’t want to give him my real name as I was scared of getting in trouble.

So I blurted out the first name that came into my head. DangerMick. It didn’t click with him that I was 18 in Minneapolis and not 38 in Beverly Hills.

So he asked me if I wanted a beer, I said sure, and that was that. I became known as DangerMick in the city.

It was easier to tell my parents I was going to the cities to hang out with my friends, than to tell them I was going to party with 2 groups of people I didn’t know.

Then I got a job with the name DangerMick. Then I got married.

Technically I’m supposed to be Michael Przech. I drive with a fake ID every day, I claim my earnings with a fake name, I’m married to a woman who doesn’t even know my real name. DangerMicked is even my drivers license name.

I feel really bad about it, but also maybe a little proud of the fact that I’m living a life as someone else? I guess?

Just wanted to put that out there.

DangerMick, out.
