I work as a security guard at Disney world, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say what area but I patrol one of the parks at night after closing, this includes going on the rides and making sure there’s no one in there, and checking the surrounding areas. Now I’ve always thought it would be kind of cool to be in the park at night, but let me tell you, it’s not.

Walking around with just a flashlight and sometimes my other coworkers, it’s a very eerie feeling, being in a place where there’s usually screaming and happy kids but now it’s just dead silence.

One time I had to check one of the rides in one of the lands, it was around 3am and the park was empty, I had to make sure no one was in there, I had to actually go into one of the things you sit in when you’re about to go on the ride, it was pitch black in there and when I turned on my flashlight, it hit something shiny and metal on the ground.

I picked it up and realized it was a pair of earrings, I thought nothing of it and put it in my pocket to turn it in the next morning, I continued my rounds and didn’t think about it anymore until I got home, I showed it to my sister and she liked it so I let her take it, but when she did, she had the weirdest look on her face.

I asked her what was wrong and she pulled out an ad that was on Facebook, I don’t know how she found it but it was a picture of the earrings she was holding on Facebook, with a caption like “please if anyone finds this earring please contact me, my 6 year old niece wore them to Disney world and lost them, she would really like to have them back, she’s really heartbroken and I’d like to get them back to her before her birthday coming up, she thinks her dad took them for safe keeping because he hides them sometimes as a little game he plays with her but he didn’t this time and she can’t stop talking about it!”

It also had a picture of the little girl, she was cute, her and her family were all smiling and happy, it broke my heart when I saw it, it made me think about what could’ve happened to her on that ride, I don’t know if she fell off or what but the thought sent chills down my spine, I read the comments and people were like “Maybe it was an old pair that was lost and someone picked it up and put it on the lost and found” and stuff like that, but I know what I found.

I wear earrings sometimes so I decided to put hers in, it felt wrong but I couldn’t help myself, that night I had another shift at work, I decided to bring the earring and try to talk myself out of turning it in and if I saw someone wearing the same earring I was going to approach them.

That’s exactly what happened, I saw a little girl with a big smile on her face, she was with what looked like her dad, she was wearing the other earring, she was excitedly talking to her dad and pointing at different rides, he was laughing and pushing her gently in different directions to make her giggle, I approached them and I don’t know if it was the earring or not but she looked at me with dead eyes and asked “Daddy, who’s that? I don’t recognize them from the pictures”

I was so taken back, I didn’t know what to say, her father just looked at me and said “Can we help you?”

I was frozen in place, I couldn’t move, I didn’t know what to do, I felt cold sweat running down my face, I finally worked up the courage to ask him “Did you guys visit here a couple months ago? I found something I think might belong to your daughter”

When I said that she started screaming, it was so loud, I’ve never heard anything like it before, it was so shrill and it pierced my ears, I tried to cover them but it didn’t help, her father just laughed maniacally, I don’t know how he wasn’t in pain, he grabbed me by the neck and dragged me to the ride I found the earring in, I was in so much pain because of her screaming, we got in one of the vehicles and her father threw me in it, at this point I was passing out because her screaming, he laughed maniacally some more and rode the ride with me, it was terrifying, I was in such immense pain, I passed out, I don’t know for how long but I woke up and they were gone.

I stumbled my way out of the ride and back to the locker room, I didn’t feel like I could move, I felt awful, I laid down on the bench and went to sleep, the next morning my manager came in to ask me what the hell was wrong with me, I told him what happened and he didn’t believe me, he thought I was high or drunk on the job, he told me to go home and never come back, I tried to tell him I wasn’t under the influence of anything but he wouldn’t listen.

I never went back, I also never took out the earring, I still wear it, I feel like if I take it out, something worse will happen, I realized I didn’t have the other earring anymore, I think the father took it but I don’t remember, whenever I hear a happy kid, I freeze in place and find myself wanting to scream in pain, I’m moving soon, hopefully that’ll help, I might send the earring to the lady who posted the Facebook ad, only if I can work up the courage to take it out.
