I lied about being able to play the piano when I got accepted to college.

When I applied for colleges I found the only place that I could realistically get in with a half-way decent scholarship was a tiny little religious college in the middle of nowhere. I hadn't planned on going to college originally but when I got in I decided why not.

The scholarship I got was for music and when I applied I had put down the piano as my instrument even though I didn't know how to play at the time and hadn't since I was a kid. I figured oh well, I'll just play something from memory.

I ended up having to play the piano in front of a panel of music students that were my superiors in order to get the scholarship and I ended up shitting myself. I knew I couldn't play and I didn't know the first thing about the sheet music, so I improvised.

I did this little ditty that was half moonlight sonata half clair de lune and they all looked like they just watched the god of piano play.

One of the men said "well that was certainly...different wasn't it". I took that as a bad thing and got up and got my things in order to leave. I got out in the hallway when one of the music professors came out and asked me to come back for a moment. They offered me a full music scholarship and a job with the department.

I was shocked and took it without thinking what that meant. I got to college and realized that not only was I on scholarship, but I had to work for the department. I was in charge of accompanying the choir for 2 classes per day and I was in charge of teaching children with special needs to play instruments.

I can't play the piano anymore than I could when I auditioned but that's how I got through college and I owe it to my lies.
