I dropped my iPhone in a pool and then lied to the Apple Store to get a replacement for free.

When the iPhone 5 came out, I was super excited and bought one right away. A few days after buying it, I was visiting my sister at her college town and she invited me to a party with her and her friends. I got very drunk at the party and, well, basically dropped my phone in the pool at the party. I didn't realize it was in the pool until the next morning when I couldn't find it anywhere. I went back to the house and, lo and behold, it was in the pool.

It was dead and beyond repair. I couldn't afford to fix it or replace it, so I just went to the Apple store and was like "my iPhone got wet and won't turn on". The Apple representative at the store said that it was clear that my phone had been submerged in water because of the color of the moisture indicators (which I didn't even know existed) and that Apple doesn't cover water damage for obvious reasons.

I was young (not that it's an excuse) and dumb and decided to try to lie. I asked to speak to the manager and when she came, I explained that that there was a bad leak in my house and somehow water had very precisely gotten into my phone. I even went so far as to describe to her how the water had very precisely gotten into my phone through the charging port. I said something like "I'm not trying to trick you into fixing it. I just want to get it repaired because it's expensive".

For reasons that are beyond me, she believed me or was feeling generous or something. She said that Apple would cover the repair as a one time courtesy, which meant that I got a replacement phone for free. I was elated and promise that I would be more careful with my phone.

Fast forward a year, I drop the exact same phone into a lake while fishing, rendering it unusable. I learned my lesson the second time around and purchased AppleCarePlus for my next phone, which is now my SE.
