Humans are the only species to have a highly advanced memory of past events that have no bearing on our everyday lives.

For example, I can recall what happened during the watergate scandal. I can describe what happened, when, where, why, and who was involved.

And you know what? It has ZERO bearing on any aspect of my everyday life. But my brain still manages to remember so many details about it.

Now imagine if a caveman could describe the Battle of Red Cliffs. Or the first establishing of a trade route between Europe and Asia.

I feel that such advanced memory is exclusive to humans, and you can clearly notice it in neanderthals or chimps, who don’t have the capacity to remember such complex events despite having their own social hierarchies and societies.
