I used to work as an attendant at a gas station. My previous attendant started a trend where if she went above a threshold in customer tips each day she would take merchandise equal to what remained and distribute it among her coworkers.

I inherited this same trend when she quit.

Her take was $150 a day; my take was $250.

The merchandise cost equal to what remained above that take was the rule for taking. Meaning we would exchange what remained as tips to equal cash and split it between our coworkers. If there remained more than what the cash was worth, we'd find a way to make up the difference by filling out a fake lottery ticket slip with the amount we needed to match the cash.

Then, we also always took merchandise, and I was the person distributing it.

I never got caught.

This was in 2019-2020, but I remember it like it was yesterday, and I still do the same thing in my current job (albeit in a completely legal capacity)

EDIT:

Holy moly this blew up faster than I thought. I'd just like to add that my family was struggling to make ends meet with rent and food and gas and the like at the time. I was completely in survival mode.

However, I believe it has been made very clear that stealing is not the right thing to do. I feel very bad about it and I've been repenting for it ever since.

Thank you all!
