If you don't know where to look for this, then please find out.

Working in tech recruitment, I see this happen ALL THE TIME. There will be a setting somewhere, or a little box you ticked, and you have just given full access to every single document and email in your account. This access will be available to anyone that you sent the application to, for the rest of eternity. Any saved drafts in Google docs/dockets, access to all your saved spreadsheets, any emails that you have sent or received, access to all your cloud storage, etc.

I've personally clicked through with fake details and found images of family vacations, work in progress project files from other companies, legal documents... the list goes one. There are entire websites of stolen personal info, and people know how to abuse this. Please be careful.

The worst part is that once you give that permission, you may not be able to revoke it. Google this, and please be careful.

EDIT: I cannot stress enough how common this is. If you use the same email address for applying as your main email address, and you have ever given a company access to your files, you have no idea who has access to every single email that you send and receive.

EDIT 2: I cannot believe this got so many upvotes. Please stay safe, people.

EDIT 3: Some words from u/trainerboy97:

Look at the bottom left corner of the google sign in screen for the cleverly hidden "show all" button, to see what permissions you are giving out.

From my experience, about 90% of people don't see that.

EDIT 4: I've had a few comments asking how this happens, and that it seems suspicious. It's super simple for this to happen, and isn't always because of the company. When you apply for a job, you will usually have a few pages of information that you need to fill out. You may be asked to attach a CV/resume, and you will be asked for your email address.

Occasionally, a company will just have a link to a google doc and a box for you to put your email in, with a little something up in the corner that says "sign in with Google". There are a few ways that they could obtain the information, but the most common is this: when you sign into your email account for attaching files or whatever, that same little box will come up and will ask you to sign in with Google account. Google gives the company the permission. If you haven't got the little box in the bottom left, you won't even know you've given that permission.

If you're in any doubt about whether they have access to information that they shouldn't, please delete everything that you sent, and unsend any emails that you sent.

EDIT 5: If you've read the comments, you'll see that this has happened to a lot of people. Please remember to delete any CVs or documents, and unsend emails, if you think a company has access to your information.
