When I was 5 years old, I realized I could do something most people couldn't, or, at least, didn't. It's hard to describe, but from the moment I turned 5 years old, I could look into people's eyes, and see just what was in there. I was artisans, so I didn't really get what I was seeing.

I saw Bentley, our black dog, in my dad's eyes. Once I turned 8, I realized that anyone with an animal in their eyes wasn't really human. They were something else, wearing our skin. I've seen cats and dogs, once even a cobra, slithering through the pupil of a classmates eye.

I've never seen a person. My eyes are brown, my mom's are blue. What does that mean for us? I don't know.

I've tried to bring my friends and family up to the notion, but they didn't believe me. My mom was a wolf. My dad is still a dog. What does it mean? I don't know.

I've learned to live with it. We live in a world of people, and I see past them to the soul of the animal. I don't know what our place in this world is. I don't know if we're artisans, accidentally placed here. If we were once human, but died, and our souls lingered, in the wrong place. I don't know what we are, or why we're here.

The world doesn't belong to us.
