I (29m) am an hispanic man from South America, living in the US. When I met my ex girlfriend, things were going great. Until I met her family, who were very very big on Trump and Maga. They assumed I was just a white guy from South America (which isnt entirely unheard of). I didnt have the energy to explain that i was from a country in South America, but i was not white.

So for 3 years, her family assumed that i was just white. and never second guessed themselves.

It was only until she broke up with me (due to me not wanting to be in a serious / long term relationship) and a week later she told her family that i was hispanic (not sure why, havent spoken to her since the breakup) that it came to my attention (one of her family members sent me a message on social media asking me why i lied). I told them the truth, that it was just easier to not correct them, since i knew they held racist beliefs.

Her family havent spoken to me since, but i dont really care. just thought this might be an entertaining story for you guys
