You never know when you might lose power (and thus water) and having a tub full of water to get you through a couple days is great! (I filled mine up today with all these weather warnings in the Midwest and I already had to use it three times. plu it’s free.)

Edit 1: definitely a way to make sure you have water to wash your hands/face! This is NOT a substitute for drinking water. The tub is for flushing toilets and basic washing. I keep a couple water bottles filled for drinking purposes. This is something to get you through the day or two or three until the lights come back on.

Edit 2: It’s a way to make sure you have water to flush your toilets and keep a basic supply of water to wash your hands/face. I keep a couple of water bottles filled and in the fridge for drinking. This is for short term emergencies, breakers go out for a couple days, or hurricane, not for long term restatement from a time of war or crisis situation, people are just crazy here with the comments!!
