Christmas tree crops are not doing well this year, and artificial Christmas trees are experiencing a massive shortage. By purchasing a real tree, you are helping the environment and not contributing to the plastic crisis.

Please do not demand a tree that is symmetrical, fully flocked, or otherwise perfect. You will most likely be purchasing from a small, local farm, and the trees are hand trimmed and shaped to the best of the farmer’s ability. By purchasing a tree that is not perfect, you are helping the farmer save time so they can plant more trees.

Real Christmas trees are not only environmentally sustainable, they look and feel better in your home. If you have a real tree and you’re feeling generous, consider donating it after the holiday to a beach or wildlife reserve. The trees help protect baby turtles from predators as they make their way into the ocean, and can even help prevent beach erosion.

If you must purchase an artificial tree, please consider buying a second hand one. They are abundant in thrift stores, and you will be reducing your carbon footprint and saving money.

Merry Christmas, and happy decorating!
