I laced my braid with thumbtacks as a self defence tactic

When I was 14 one of my friends was sexually assaulted by her uncle, she told people and no one believed her since her uncle had a good rep in the community and she was known to lie about little things. <br><br>I was scared it would happen to me and I didn’t want people to think I was a liar too so I got the idea to weave thumbtacks into my hair as a way to hurt anyone who tried anything. I didn’t end up using it but it did make me feel a bit better and since then I have let my hair go Natural and stopped getting it braided.
