LPT: Lack of sleep doesn't matter as long as the sleep you get is high quality

I've been telling people this for years. I've slept 6-8 hours a night since I was a child. I was never allowed to sleep in. If I wasn't up by 8, I had to go to bed at 10 that night regardless. No exceptions, ever. It took awhile to get used to but now I can be wide awake on 6 hours of sleep a night and be ready to take on the day.

I find that when I sleep in, even if I get 12-14 hours, I feel groggy, irritable, and generally miserable. I will do anything in my power to be in bed at 2am and up by 8am every day because my quality of life with be drastically lower as the day goes on if I sleep in.

A consistent sleep schedule is key. So, go to bed and get up at the same time even on weekends.

Edit: oh my wow. I wrote this as I was falling asleep and just woke up. I didn't expect it to very popular. Also, I didn't say that everyone needs 6 hours of sleep. That's just what works for me. Also, I didn't say consistently Lack of sleep doesn't matter. Because that is 100% false. What I said was that you could survive on less sleep if the quality is high but if you get low quality sleep, it doesn't matter how long you sleep.
