I stole a fur coat after a party

I did this some (30?) years ago. I had a date with my ex-mother-in-law who I barely knew at that time.<br><br>We went to a Christmas party at a hotel on the beach. We had a few drinks, ate and danced. After dinner a few people said they had the urge to walk on the beach, so I joined in.<br><br>As we were strolling on the beach, I saw a fur coat stuck between some rocks. It looked like someone got naked in the sand and threw their coat on the rocks where it got caught. I tugged on it until it came free. It was heavy and a nice mink coat with some jewellry hanging off of it.<br><br>It smelled of perfume, so I thought this must be from a rich lady who didn't even notice she lost it. I really had no idea what to do with it, so I gave it to my date. She liked it and after that night she was very nice to me, gave me nice presents etc.<br><br>I didn't tell her it was stolen, but I told her I found it. I didn't think she would be so happy with it if I told her I had been walking around the beach in fur and jewellry.<br><br>The next day the local newspaper had an article about a lady who was raped on the beach. The description of the coat matched what I found and somehow I felt responsible and guilty. The police didn't find the suspect and my guilt faded over time.<br><br>My guilt I had was more that I found all the jewellry, so she must have been walking around the beach naked (and probably scared) with the police thinking her attacker still had it.
