I am by all accounts a good girl, well behaved, never in trouble. I go to church every Sunday, I never cuss, I’m a southern girl. I was a bookkeeper for a small business with about 12 employees and I was the only office worker. I was usually by myself in the evenings when everyone else went home. It all started when I had a problem with my power going out and my electricity company wouldn’t accept a check. They wanted a money order or cashiers check from the bank. So I wrote the check out to cash and cashed it at the bank. Then came a time I didn’t get paid and I found out the company hadn’t paid payroll taxes in 2 years. My boss was taking the tax money to give bonuses to his family members that worked in the plant. I’m a single mom and I didn’t know how I was going to make ends meet so I started writing checks to myself. I started with $1000, then went up to $2000. I did this a few times. I would forge his signature on the checks. One time I wrote a check to myself for $5000. I was so scared I would get caught. I guess you could say I was playing with fire. I finally left the company because I couldn’t live with the guilt and the fear of being caught. I’m still in church every Sunday, I’m a good mom and I never did anything else bad in my life. (I don’t drink or smoke and have never done drugs.) I feel better now that I have confessed and I hope God will forgive me.
