When I was 16 I got a job at McDonald’s. I hated making food and working front counter. I always asked to work drive thru window taking money at the first window.
This was before credit cards so everyone paid in cash. My shift was 4-10 with a 30 minute lunch. I would usually have a 5 or 10 minute break around 7-8pm. And I always kept a 5 gallon bucket with lid under the register at the window I was at.

I would put a few dollars in the bucket at the beginning of my shift every night. By the end of my shift the bucket was always full. I would go outside during my break and dump the bucket in my car. The window was near an alley way so no one ever saw me.
Over 2 years I probably stole over $5,000.

I spent a few years in prison for different things as an adult and I’m glad I didn’t get caught and get locked up as a teen for stealing.
I don’t think anyone ever knew. I worked with a few people that stole food or smoke weed during work hours.

edit - I forgot to tell you guys the best part. I was a good kid and worked hard. I got employee of the month almost every month for over a year.

edit #2 - I’m not condoning or promoting crime. This was something I did as a kid 40 years ago and was part of my story. I served my time and I’m not a criminal now. I work hard and appreciate my life.

I appreciate the kind words and the awards and I’m glad some people enjoyed my story.
