When I was 16 I was helping move our neighbors house because the husband lost his job and they couldn’t afford to hire movers. I wanted to make them feel better and so my best friend and I were a couple of the people moving stuff out of their house.

sometimes they would simply give us stuff they didn’t want anymore. They gave a lot of stuff away, which is important because it leads to the gas can.

Their walls simply consisted of dry walls with wooden 2x4s holding them up. There simply was no insulation so it got really cold in the winter. They owned a kerosene heater. I’m not really sure why they couldn’t just get a space heater like normal people.

sometimes they would give away free items they still had if we asked nicely enough. I asked for the kerosene heater and the gas can they used to fill it up. I thought it was awesome and would be a great item to add to my collection of random stuff.

So we got the gas can and the kerosene heater. We were so proud of ourselves like we had hit the jackpot. We didn’t have any way to get kerosene so we had to go to home depot.

This is where it gets interesting. I had an idea. I knew the employee would be busy with the neighbors and would have his back turned to us. I whispered to my friend, “lets steal a gas can full of kerosene.” I walked a few isles ahead of him casually and set the gas can down on a shelf. Then I walked back. We ran up to the worker and then he followed us to the cash register.

I felt so nervous. I thought we were dead. Then we got out of there without any issues. I started whistling as soon as we were out of view from the employees. My friend asked what I was doing and I told him we just stole hundreds of dollars worth of kerosene.

We used it a few times and it was fun. But the smell of kerosene is fucking awful. It smelled like kerosene for months. The smell never went away. Also, the kerosene started leaking so we had to throw it away. I guess you could say I got what was coming to me.
