I’m 40 now but this has been on my mind a lot the last few days. Walking into the store with my brother and myself, carrying a backpack full of books.

We’d find a section with a chair in it and stash the backpack under it then set out to fill our pockets with as many books as possible.

The best part was the feeling for me of being a bandit.

Second best was the two copies of the same book we could call our own. We for some reason always took two of each.

The best part was the feeling for me of being a bandit.

Second best was the two copies of the same book we could call our own. We for some reason always took two of each.

I never cared about what the book was, moreso how big the collection was.

We’d leave with two full bookshelves and each book was in mint condition.

Some of our biggest hauls were upwards of 30 books. We’d make a list beforehand and choose for the biggest books we could find.

My brother got caught once and he was able to talk his way out of it after showing proof that he worked at Barnes and Noble.

Two best friends, one bandit family.

Edit: wow! This blew up quick! Haha.

Edit edit: I think I might have you guys fooled a bit. I posted this as a confession because, well it’s wrong to steal. But I was definitely an asshole.

Bigger edit: believe it or not, it’s been a minute since I’ve read a book. But I do have a table in my living room with a bookshelf above it, and they’re all in mint condition.

Next bigger edit: I really appreciate everyone being so kind and non judgmental. Thanks to all of you.

Edit after that: I’m happy to see there are other freaks in the world like me! I wish I could message privately because I might have been the only one but I would only steal hardcover.
