Someone told me to never look up at the clock on our microwave at exactly 3:33 am, or else I will never sleep again. Tonight, I just had to see for myself why that was.

I don’t have a big family, so our house is only one story and we only have three bedrooms. Still, my parents have managed to convert one of those extra rooms into some sort of office for my dad while the other is my dad’s personal gym. My sister and I have our own rooms of course, and my mom has a room for her hobbies.

I was in my room, just browsing my phone and scrolling through social media. It was almost 2:30 in the morning and the WiFi wasn’t the best, slowing down my scrolling and just making my experience horrible. I was thinking of just going to sleep at that point and trying again in the morning, but the app would sometimes stop lagging for a bit and I was afraid I might miss something. The internet was so bad I had to plug it in to charge, and I was still sitting on my bed after a while. I checked the time and it had already passed 3:00 am and I was getting extremely tired. I thought about looking at the clock on my phone, but I didn’t.

Nothing else happened until 3:31 rolled around. I don’t know why, but my stomach began to hurt as the numbers went from 31 to 32. I had to know for myself. I sat up straight and walked out of my room and into the hallway. The house was dark, which made the lights from the clock on the microwave shine brighter than usual. I know this is going to sound like a bad joke, but when I saw the numbers glowing in the dark, I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to fall asleep until I had looked at that clock at 3:33 am. I tried shaking the feeling off, but when the numbers rolled over to 3:33, I looked up at the clock and stared.

Nothing happened. I looked at it for a few minutes, but nothing weird happened. I thought the joke was over and I could go to sleep once and for all. I walked back into my room and didn’t even bother closing my door; I just fell into bed. I’m sure it was just my imagination, but as I was falling asleep, I could’ve sworn I heard a voice whisper “thank you” in my ear.
