If you have to choose between a job that pays less but has a bunch of benefits (being self-employed, flexible schedule, ability to be in your pajamas during work hours, ect ect ect) choose the job that pays more. It will be easier to create your ideal environment when you have money to invest in that compared to your small paycheck barely covering your expenses. You are just disguising being broke as being a boss.

Edit: Hey, if I have to be a wage slave I want to at least be getting a good amount of money in return lol

Edit 2: For the people in the comments defending their decision to be a starving artist or whatever, I'm not saying you can't do that. I'm saying don't pretend being broke is a good thing. Don't pretend you're being revolutionary just because you're following your passion. You're not breaking any systems and you're not impressing anyone with your "sticking it to the man" when you could ask for better pay from your boss but choose not to because it's "icky". There's a difference between doing something because you love it and doing it because you have to. Just disclaimers before I get swarmed.

Edit 3: For those saying "but what if a high paying job doesn't make me happy?" Well, that's your own responsibility. The job is not your therapist, your friends, or your mom. It's your job to create happiness.

Edit 4: For those saying passion pays more than money, that's true but only if you're passionate about making money. If you're passionate about something else, like painting or baking or sewing or whatever, you'll have an incredibly hard time getting paid when millions of other people are just as passionate or passionate to a professional degree. Yes I know your passion will drive you to success!! But in the time it takes you to get to that level ask yourself if it was worth it.
