A lot of people don't know that you can actually ask a police officer if you are allowed to go.

When a police officer stops you, it is perfectly reasonable to say:

"Officer, am I free to go?"

If they say yes, you can go. If they say no, you're still in their arrest loop and you are best off just not saying anything (staying silent)

If they say "you're free to go", but then block your path and prevent you from leaving... you can then say "I mean am I REALLY free to go?"

This lets them know that you know your rights and you will challenge them if you have to, which makes them realize they need to stop screwing around and either keep the BS going, or let you go.

They will say things like "are you looking for trouble?" and things like that. You answer like this:

"No officer, I am looking to not be wrongfully arrested. Am I free to go?"

If they are actually arresting you, they *will* explicitly say so. If you are free to go, then you can simply say "then I am going now" or "then I am leaving" and get going.

You can demonstrate very politely, but very clearly, that you are not to be fucked with, without actually being confrontational.

The cops will usually let you go on your way, I have done this multiple times already. The cops will grumble under their breath, but they are just mad because they know that you know your rights and will challenge them.

So go ahead and learn your rights! And challenge the police when they violate them. You have rights, use them!

Edit:

I was told this by a police officer friend of mine. It works. ,test it out.

Seems like a lot of people are surprised by this, enough to610 upvote it.
