I stole thousands of dollars from our employee’s cash register so that I could continue going to strip clubs

I’m 28, working as an assistant manager at a high end restaurant. I have a terrible addiction to strip clubs and I couldn’t afford it anymore so I started stealing from work and took even more when I was promoted to assistant manager. I stole over $20,000 in 1 year. I always put the cash register out of order for 30 mins - 1 hr at a time and no one else would touch it. I would add fake transaction on the register and then cancel them. We were supposed to take a credit card receipt and throw it away if we cancelled it but I would pocket it and use it to compare it to the fake order I added and compare it to the order at the end of the day to make sure I didn’t take so much that they would notice.

It felt too good and I felt too powerful. I didn’t get caught when I took $1,000 so I figured I’ll never get caught if I take $1,500, and then I’d take $1,800, and then $2,000. I took at least $2,000 every time I was on shift and I worked 5 days a week. They were getting ready to promote me to store manager so I knew they would count all the cash and I’d get caught so I quit.
