I conspired with my zany office mate to distract our boss during my exit interview.

It was the best conversation ever because of it. My office mate has a tendency to burst into the office I shared with our boss at any time to get a reaction out of him. He also has a tendency to screw up really important tasks and blame it on other people. His office is across the hall and I could hear him talking to himself and moving things around. <br><br>I told my boss to expect him to make an appearance during my exit interview and he just rolled his eyes. My boss joined me in the office and started the exit interview and asked me if everything was okay, why I was leaving, if there was anything he could do to keep me, etc. I think I answered the first two questions and just as I was about to tell him my decision was final our office mate burst in the door and started waving a piece of paper in the air, saying, "I knew it! I knew it! You did it!" I lost it. Our boss got up and asked what he was talking about and he wouldn't answer, he just kept saying he was right and he finally left. <br><br>After he was gone my boss apologized and asked if I wanted to continue. I said yes and when he asked again why I was leaving I told him the truth. "Up until that moment I wanted to stay, but now I really want to get the hell out of here." He laughed and said that was fair. Then he asked if everything was okay and I said yes, everything was fine and I was excited about this new opportunity. Then he asked if there was anything he could do to keep me and I told him to hire someone to sit across the hall from him instead of me. That made him laugh harder. <br><br>My office mate ended up bawling his eyes out that afternoon because he thought our boss was going to fire him. Lol.
