I used to rob my disabled classmate’s lunch money every day.

When I was in 6th grade, I used to sit with a classmate of mine at lunch. This guy had a severe genetic disorder that caused him to have a very hard time communicating with people, and he also had some physical handicaps.

He was very kind, and very friendly, but clearly not very smart. He also got a lot of free stuff from his parents because he was disabled, like a Nintendo switch max, or a brand new gaming PC (which he never used).

My junior high used to require every student to pay for their own lunch if they used the cafeteria, but I did not. I was bullied very badly at school, including being food stolen, and I used to take my lunch outside to eat it in secret. And I had this disabled classmate who always ate lunch with me, because he felt sorry for me.

Even though he could not talk very well, he could understand a little bit of what I was saying. So I used to ask him things like, “who’s your favorite streamer?” Or “what’s your favorite youtube channel?” And he’d say something like “jack s p a r r o w”. And the next day I’d be like “oh I wish I could watch jack s p a r r o w but I don’t have money for the cafeteria wifi”. And then he’d give me his lunch money.

I never asked him for his lunch money directly, because I did not want him to get suspicious.

So I did this pretty much every single day for 3 years, and used his money to buy food, wifi, and even Candy. All I had to do was mention a topic, and talk about how I wanted something, and he’d give me the money for it.

I always felt pretty bad about it, but not bad enough to stop. One time in 7th grade he tried to give me his lunch card, which had his lunch money on it so that I could buy myself food, but I told him no, because I did not want his parents to get suspicious.

And that was the only time that I remember where he offered me money without me tricking him into it.

3 years went by, and I did this every single day until I graduated. I got so many snacks, and so much food that it would have cost me hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

And looking back, I feel really bad because he was a nice kid. And I don’t know why he decided to be friends with me. But I’m glad that at least he let me eat.
