I conspired with a guy I didn't even know who had a crush on a regular customer of mine.

I was in high school and worked at the local record store. There was a regular customer who was several years older than me who would always ask me out and hit on me to the point of creepiness. I'd even go out of my way to hide in the back of the store whenever I heard he was walking toward the store.

One day there was a guy in the store who I'd never seen before. He asked me who my least favorite customer was. Without even thinking about it, it was obvious who I should tell him. I told him about this annoying guy who would always harass me. I told him I wasn't sure if he'd be in that day but he sometimes comes in on Thursdays and sometimes comes in on Fridays. Well, at that moment he walked into the store. This guy I was talking to told me he would call me later that night. I totally forgot about that conversation by the time I got home. When I was watching tv around 10, I got a call asking me if the guy I liked to call Deak was working at the liquor store. I said yeah! Then this guy hung up.

About 20 minutes later, I heard a story on the news about two clerks who were robbed and shot and killed. I couldn't believe it. I had to work the next morning so when I got in the next day, my boss had replaced the broken window, cleaned up the blood and broken glass, and was back to business as usual without saying much about it. I asked what happened to the two clerks who were shot. He told me one was in critical condition and the other was dead. I asked if it was Deak who died. He said yes. I immediately got worried that somehow my conversation of the day before somehow contributed to the death of this annoying guy. I asked my boss what happened and he told me two guys walked in and both had guns pointed at the clerks. One of the guys told the clerks to empty the register and put the money in the duffel bag he was holding. When they were doing that, another guy walked in who had a big bag of liquor. The guy without a gun looked at the clerks and said, "you know what, you two Motherfuckers have worked hard for that liquor and you deserve it. You can have it for free." and he walked out. The two guys with the guns took the duffel bag full of cash and shot both clerks.

That night I got another call asking me if that was the correct liquor store. I said yes again and he hung up. The next day, one of our regular customers came in to tell us that his brother in law was in critical condition and his best friend had been murdered. I put two and two together and realized I was talking to his brother in law the day before when he asked me my least favorite customer. It turns out these two guys had conspired to have those two clerks robbed and shot. The one I was talking to was the one who gave them the free liquor and the one I didn't know was the one who shot them.

I realized that my conversation with that guy somehow led to the murder of someone I couldn't stand just because he liked me. The worst part of it all was that I never saw either of those guys again after that day. No charges were ever filed. They were never caught. They used the money they stole to buy a house in the hills with a massive wall around it.
