I tricked my husband into making me a sandwich

This is a story most of you will not be able to relate to, so just use it as background noise while you clean or something lol.

I’m 20 and my husband is 32. We’ve been married for one year. He’s a really great guy and it was love at first sight for us. We’re happy in our marriage and we’re expecting our first child together any day now.

My only issue with him is that he is *extremely* lazy. He’s a professional gamer, so even though he is working the whole day, he’s literally sitting on the couch playing video games for a minimum 8 hours a day. He’s not overweight or anything, but he literally never does any exercise and he never leaves the house unless he has to. When he runs out of food or snacks, he’ll order them from Uber eats or DoorDash and have them delivered to our apartment. He would probably starve to death if I didn’t take care of him.

This is especially an issue now that I’m in my last month of pregnancy. I’m huge and I have pain in my hips and knees any time I do any amount of walking. I also never have energy for anything but it was okay because I could just tag my husband in on any of the housework I couldn’t do.

The problem is that he would say yes to helping me out, but never actually do it. For example, yesterday I was in agony and it was super hard for me to walk, so I asked my husband to make me a cheese sandwich. He said yes, sat back down, and then completely ignored my request. I had to eventually drag myself into the kitchen and figure it out myself, crying the whole time because of the pain.

So after this happened, my best friend gave me the idea to give him the Pavlov’s dogs treatment. Any time he does something for me, I make him a really tasty snack and feed it to him. Any time he refuses to do something for me, I’m totally fine. I don’t argue with him or try to get him to do it. I just tell him the outcome that I wanted anyway, and then I go about getting it for myself, even if it hurts.

The first time I did this was when he refused to make me a meal. I got myself a healthy smoothie and a salad and then I drank them in front of him. I was crying and groaning because of the pain of walking but he was utterly unphased.

The next time I asked him to do something for me, it was the opposite. I asked him to bring me dinner and he did it without even thinking about it. I made him a really tasty snack in return and he was happy.

This has basically been a pattern ever since. When he does stuff for me, he gets a reward.

Well I decided to put this to the test and trick him into making me the ultimate sandwich.

I started out by telling him that I’m worried that our baby might come any day now and I’m worried he won’t know how to do anything basic on his own. I told him that I want him to practice making me a BLT sandwich, because I’m worried that when the baby comes he’ll be too lazy to do it.

He agreed to this and made the sandwich, except I put a twist on it and told him that he has to go to the store by himself to get the ingredients. This is obviously a huge deal because he never goes to the store, so I knew he’d have trouble with it. Also, we live in Japan and I’m the only one of us who can speak any Japanese.

He said yes to this and immediately went to the store. It was like a montage straight out of a Disney movie. I literally almost cried when I saw him do it.

When he got home, he had everything and he actually made me a huge BLT, with extra bacon. I was so proud of him. I didn’t think it was possible for him to be such an adult.

After he gave me the sandwiches, I made him a reward. At this point I had been accumulating ingredients for a few days. I decided to make him the ultimate gamer sandwich: snacks stuffed inside of other snacks. Specifically, Doritos, chips, and popcorn, inside of a sandwich with ketchup and mayonnaise.

He was so happy when I gave him the snacks. He’s literally eating them right now as I type this.

I just wonder if this will stick. Will he go back to being lazy or did I actually train him? Only time will tell.

Bye for now.
