When I was a kid, we brought in canned goods for the less fortunate and I brought in expired canned goods that my mom said were trash.

When I was in 6th grade, we brought in canned goods for the less fortunate. I remember bringing in about 5 cans of different things. I brought in a few cans of evaporated milk and the other 3 I can’t remember. What’s important is that they were all expired and my mom considered them garbage. It was all our schools idea and we were so excited thinking that we were doing good. I remember the morning of, my mom didn’t even know about it and she asked me why I had 5 cans on the kitchen counter. I told her that it was for a school thing and she said “well get rid of it, it’s bad.” I took it to school anyway and didn’t tell her about it. It’s been bugging me lately because I’m pretty sure 5 families didn’t have to eat bad milk and who knows what else.
