I lied about it being a "used book" so I can get out of leaving a tip

Every now and then I visit Half Price Books. Which is a used book store. When I give them the money they ask if I want to give a tip. I'm like "why would I?" I'm not going to tip a store worker.<br><br>They called me out on it once. I went, handed them money and left. I heard her go "that's so rude." I stopped going to that specific store for a while. Then one day I felt bad scaring her away so I came back. I handed her money. She told me to have a good day. I told her thanks. She asked if I want to tip. I said no. She goes "wow, I forgot how rude you are." I don't think I did anything wrong but what I did do was try to just give my money and get out of the situation. She called me rude again. I was like "wow you really are a panzy." She said "whatever." I said "seriously, I'm not being rude." Then she told me "I get what you're trying to say, but you can say a tip is a no thank you. Which is the same as not giving a tip or giving a thanks, but you sound less rude." I was like "oh I thought you get mad at no tip or no thanks. Which is why I just say no thanks." She said "yeah, you get a tip or a thanks to say we appreciate you shopping. I get you don't fully understand, but I just want you to know that we don't get mad because you don't want to give a tip. It's about showing you care or appreciate us." She said "next time you come in can you just say a no thank you?" I said "yeah, thanks for scolding me."<br><br>So yeah I'm not going back there again.
