I stole thousands of dollars in change over 2 years working at McDonalds

I was a manager for a few years at a McDonalds in NJ, from 2008-2010 or so. Till #33 was designated as the safe. I had a game I would play where I would put the safe money in a bag, scan it twice, void one, keep the other, and write down the amount. At the end of the night at closing I would put that amount into my pocket, void the amount from the till on the computer. It was the safe money so at the end of the month the deposit would match up. From time to time I would use this money to pay for missing cash in the tills. Over 2 years I stole probably $3,000. The manager before me was a crook and stole a lot more than that in gift cards, cash, and food. I'm not trying to justify it but I was young and stupid and at least I never got caught.

Edit: Wow, didn't expect this many views or replies. For anyone curious why I kept a running tally on paper- I did it that way so I could easily check the number on the computer at the end of the day, like a double check for myself. At the end of the month I stole probably around $60-100 a day for 20-25 days per month. Also I never aspired to be a manager, I started working at McDonalds to make money and eventually they saw me as a leader or whatever so I got promoted and kept taking the promotions because it gave me more experience to put on resumes.

Edit2: I never had access to the safe for deposits. I wasn't trying to get rich, I was trying to get through college. This was my part time job while I did classes. I never thought of doing this when I was a regular employee, I stole probably less than $100 my entire time as a regular employee.
