I had a fake accent as a child

I’m 17 now, and I don’t really know why I’m admitting this right now as it was so long ago, but when I was about 4 my family moved to a different area. At this time the only people I really knew was my family, and I had a few friends from nursery but I never saw them once we moved. I remember my first few weeks of school being incredibly lonely, I would go through the motions of the day, and was too shy to play with others. But one day I had an idea, I started talking in a fake American accent, and it genuinely worked. I couldn’t explain why, but even when people found out it was fake they seemed more interested in me and my accent, than anything else. I know it was immature and I guess people found it odd, but I did it anyway. I even had people going round saying I was lying and it was real, but I just remember it giving me confidence to talk to people and I found it so much easier to make friends. I stopped doing it in year 2, and by that point I already had a group of friends that accepted me for who I was. But looking back it’s just crazily strange that I did that, and even when people found out they didn’t ostracise me they just seemed to like me more??
