Should shops access customer’s mobile footage if they suspect you of shoplifting?

I saw a post on chambers the other day about a shop worker who took the customers phone as evidence of shoplifting (because there was footage of it on the phone)<br>The customer was then arrested and charged. I’ve never heard of this before. Should shops access customer’s mobile footage if they suspect you of shoplifting?
