The world is quiet and dark. Overgrown and misty. The lack of cars and commotion is absolute. The silence is oppressive. The sky is murky, slushy grey-brown. It’s the color of hell.

The world, as it was, has ended. Viscoelastic bubbles are the cause. They have destroyed the world.

Viscoelastic bubbles, as a logical thing, are not different than other bubbles. A wall of air and water is invested in the decrease in surface tension between water molecules. But in the viscoelastic bubble, the tension is not just a general rent in the surface. There is something that controls it. A central mass of misty gelatinous goo dominates the center of the viscoelastic bubble.

It goes through the world eating what it wants. It’s incredible. Anytime it hits land, there’s a snapping sound as it swirls and writhes to absorb the particles of earth into the protective jacket it wears.

It has a front and a back. It’s easy to see where its mouth is. There’s an eyebrow at the back of the membrane. It’s a thick mass of the gelatinous goo, stretched out like a bridge from the bubble’s front to back. It’s the only point of tension on the entire bubble’s surface.

Goo drips constantly from the brow, running along the tension of the membrane. It’s like rain threatening to boil over at any moment. When the bubble is high energy, the goo drips fast. As it gets closer to impossibly powerful things, it becomes more agile. The goo moves faster and faster. It is possible to gauge the bubble’s power level. We are right at the bubble’s edge, squeezed and suffocated by the gravity that holds the drop of goo to the surface.

It’s like the swim of a fish in the ocean. The bubble’s edge waves every time it moves. The goo drops faster as the bubble hits another wall. This is an abandoned high rise. It’s been overtaken by vines, and moss has claimed its walls. Water drips along the walls. It’s a wall of wet earth. The bubble bursts into life as it eats its way through the wall. Water and earth and plants and rent steel beams disappear into the mist of the bubble.

It’s huge. It’s bigger than it was. The bubble grows bigger and more powerful as it absorbs things into its mist. It can fit a skyscraper within its walls, but it’s still small. There are bigger bubbles.

The world is quiet and dark. Overgrown and misty. The lack of cars and commotion is absolute. The silence is oppressive. The sky is murky, slushy grey-brown.
