What do you think of when you see "magic realism"?

So I'm trying to write my first-ever short story. I've had the idea for a long time, but never had the guts to share it. I've decided to share it on non-native English speaker website to get comments.<br><br>Recently, there has been a surge of interest in "magical realism" on that website, and so I've been asked if my story is "magical realism" or not. The fact that people keep asking me what style of fiction this is makes me wonder what is so special about it, and if I should care. <br><br>I tend to think that the term was made up to describe the works of Gabriel García Márquez, but isn't that a non-native English speaker's pov? What does "magic realism" mean to you? What would you expect to happen in a "magic realism" story?
