I’m a chef and I hate 99% of my kitchen gadgets

I like to keep things simple. A few days ago, I took down all my gadgets and scoured each one to its original shine. I then divided them into three groups: save, donate, and discard. I got rid of a lot of it. The Instant Pot, the food processor, the spiralizer, the bread maker, the slow cooker, the blender, the electric whisk, the egg cooker, the juicer, the electric can opener, and the NutriBullet all fell into the discard category.

I didn’t get rid of all of it. My kitchen aid mixer, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, stand mixer, and the air fryer made the cut. My kitchen is much cleaner and easier to clean now.

Honestly, the air fryer will probably go next. It just doesn’t get used that often.

Lesson learned. It doesn’t matter how many gadgets I have. It matters if they get used.

Edit: Wow, thank you for all the responses so far! I’ve never had an post get this many responses. I’ll try to address some common questions:

1. I’m not a profesional chef. I work in a lot of different jobs, and I’ve worked as a chef. I’ve been cooking for most of my life and have worked in several restaurants. Just because I’m a minimalist doesn’t mean I can’t be a great cook. Years of practice has allowed me to be an amazing cook with just a few utensils.

2. I have a small kitchen. It’s basically just a glorified wet bar. There isn’t a lot of room, and I have to be picky about what gets to be in there. If something doesn’t get used regularly, then it’s in the way.

3. I’ve only used my Instant Pot once. It was the Christmas present from my MIL and she was pissed off that I didn’t use it. I tried to, but the food sucked.

4. My kitchen is much cleaner now that I don’t have a million gadgets filling up the drawers. I save a lot of time now because I don’t have to waste my time cleaning all the gadgets that I don’t use.

5. I’d much rather make pasta fresh than use a gadget to make zoodles. Making pasta is calming and allows me to have just a few relaxing moments to unwind after a long day. It helps me focus on the present and enjoy what I’m doing.
