Every night, thousands of redditors share their intimate secrets with fellow strangers on this sub. I have lurked this sub for a while and I also have a story I would like to share. I am posting this here because it is relevant to creative writing and I feel that other chambers wont allow it. I am not looking for advice and this is 100% confession.

In my senior year of high school, I plagiarized for the first time for an(what I thought was) easy creative writing assignment. What I plagiarized was not a subtle copy and paste. I was a lazy high school student who was also juggling a job andisoftener would fall asleep doing homework after 10PM. That was a lazy mistake and I was caught.

Now this assignment was a terrible concept and was not “creative”. Growing up in 2000s, I was surrounded by women who worshiped Twilight. I was never that into it, but I liked the concept of vampires. The teacher decided to assign an essay where we were to write a scene where Edward Cullen and I were at the beach. This was the first and last time I plagiarized, but it was not just a paragraph - it was a whole essay. I was afraid that I would get caught and didn’t want to take the chance. This was also a new teacher andisoftener it would be hard(we were right) to trick her. So I copy and pasted a whole essay from the internet and submitted it.

The night before I submitted this essay, I woke up in a panic and deleted it from my computer. I(like an idiot) decided to print it out at school. I printed it out during lunch and rushed to my next class, where I hid it in my binder. The teacher never collected the essay and expected us to bring it in the next day. When I got home, I forgot about it and the next morning I realized that it was still in my binder. I rushed out the door and couldn’t go back for it. I told the teacher what happened and she didn’t believe me. I got a zero on the assignment and I learned a lesson.

A few years later, I was in college and I saw the teacher at a mutual friends house. After a few drinks, the teacher admitted that it was a terrible assignment andfelt bad about failing me. She explained that she was new and was trying to relate to us. She apologized and then told me that she actually did the same thing in her first year of teaching. I forgave her and we have been friends ever since. A few months later, I shared my story and she laughed about it.

tl;dr: I plagiarized on a stupid creative writing assignment in high school and got a zero. A few years later, the teacher apologized and we are friends.
