I was in the middle of a call with an appliance repair company, because I took my coffee machine in for a repair and they are calling me to tell me I need a new one and it's not under warranty.

I was on speaker phone and my husband, who is Italian, was next to me. The repair person ended up speaking some Italian to my husband.

I am so mad at myself for not being able to speak it. I have a goddamn degree in it.

I would love to tell you it's just Italian and I can speak other languages just fine, but that's not the case. I don't have a great grasp of any language. I have two degrees in foreign language, and in 7 years I only got to speak once at work. I had barely any other interaction.

I'm worried about my next job, because when you work in this field it's always expected that you will speak the languages of the countries assigned to you.

I have bought several courses, and I have always ended up quitting. I am need to practice speaking a lot more and actually talk. But I am just so afraid to look stupid and I hate that.
