I just learned about the 1921 massacre in Tulsa Oklahoma where a white mob attacked a wealthy black community. 300 dead, 800 injured, 9,000 left homeless.

The destruction of the area, known as the Greenwood District, was carried out by the Tulsa Race Riot Commission formed in 1997. Those findings were that 1,256 houses were burned and another 215 were looted, two schools, a hospital, a library, a newspaper office, and 21 churches were either set afire or looted and many other buildings were damaged. The total cost was estimated between $1.5 and $2 million (approximately $20 million in 1997).
