Was at a wedding and heard one of the CRAZIEST things I’ve ever heard in my life

I was at a wedding and was chatting with one of the guests (a 22 year old woman). She is from a nearby city that was a stronghold of the left in Israel. After some small talk, she mentioned she works for the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection. I asked her how is it (because I am considering a job in that ministry now) and she said it’s good but she is very busy.<br><br>She said that one of the projects that they are working on is somehow (I don’t know) reducing the amount of light pollution in Israel. She said they want the light in Israel to be more yellow (whatever that means) and to not shine so high (so that people can somehow see the stars). She said that she’s working on the project to put those new streetlights in Modiin (a planned city about 35 minutes west of Jerusalem).<br><br>I asked her, why in the world would the government of Israel EVER spend money on that?? There are so many things that they could be spending money on, but that is the least of their priorities. If I want to see the stars, I can look at a picture of the stars in a book. And if I want to see the stars somehow (I don’t know), I can go to some park or something and see the stars and then come back to the city. Why are they spending money on this bs?<br><br>So she told me that they are doing this because some soldiers said that they were kidnapped by Hamas. She said they were walking one night and couldn’t see the stars and were kidnapped. And the government wants to prevent that from happening again.<br><br>I said “wait, so are you telling me that you are in the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection and you are working on a project putting streetlights in Israeli cities because some fucking soldiers got kidnapped by Hamas because they couldn’t see the stars??”<br><br>She said yes. But then started acting very suspicious and said she wasn’t supposed to tell me that and she was just joking. And then said let’s just drop it and that this is classified information. And then she just gave me a weird look and walked away.<br><br>I was absolutely blown away. Is this actually the reason why they’re putting these streetlights everywhere?
