CMV: Capital punishment is 100% justifiable.

I'm going to use the story of Darrell Bquery Harris. He kidnapped, raped, and murdered a 16 year old girl. She was driving to work one day when she had car trouble. Mr Harris stopped to help her, and asked to use her cell phone. He then held the cell phone to her head and shot her, and then raped her dead body.

Mr Harris was given the death penalty, but because of the inefficiencies of the justice system he spent 22 years on death row. He had 8 stays of execution.

He ended up dying of natural causes in 2016.

Imagine you're the father of the girl who was killed. The justice system allows the man who killed and raped your daughter to live for 22 more years after being sentenced to death. He got to live for 22 more years than your daughter, despite being sentenced to be put to death.

I think most people can agree capital punishment is a controversial topic, but I think the justice system is broken if it can't even carry out a death sentence. I think the justice system should completely reform how capital punishment is carried out.

I think there needs to be a time limit between sentencing and execution. And there should be a limit on the number of appeals that can be made.

The justice system is supposed to bring justice to victims and their families/friends. I believe the justice system is supposed to bring justice first and foremost, not rehabilitation or other things.

Obviously rehabilitation should be a goal, but it should be a secondary one. There are a select few who don't deserve to live in society, and those people should suffer the consequences of capital punishment.

There are a ton of stories you can find about crimes that were committed, and the punishment that was given. In my opinion, the justice system has failed to bring justice to victims if the punishment is 50 years to life, or even 25 to life. Mr Harris should have been put to death years before he actually ended up dying.

I should note that I believe that the justice system is broken and that capital punishment isn't carried out correctly in a lot of cases. But I do believe that it is justifiable in certain cases. I think these cases are rare, but they do exist.

The most common arguments I see against capital punishment are that it's expensive and it can kill innocent people. I don't think it's the punishment is the problem, I think it's how the system operates. I don't think the system should be changed to eliminate capital punishment, but the system should be changed to make the process of capital punishment more efficient.

Edit: Reforming the system is the first step. There needs to be a large reform in the justice system to even make capital punishment viable.

Edit2: Capital punishment is the punishment of death, not the method of death.
