What's up with chatgpt only being able to read the last 2000 or so characters in the conversation? Like what's the point of it then?

It seems like it's being designed as a throwaway chat app that you can only have a short conversation with, but every single day I complain about it only being able to read the last 2000 characters. <br><br>I can't fathom the purpose of this utterly useless limitation. Has anyone found a way around this, or is this just part of the design of the app?
