What if the Mongols Conquered All of Europe?

Hello guys, today I am here with a geopolitical and military article, a quite interesting one as you can see from the title. The Mongols were an extremely organized and formidable horde, and they had the entire Old World in their sights. They conquered China, the Middle East, and a good portion of Eastern Europe, but what if they had managed to conquer all of Europe? For the sake of the thought experiment, we will assume that there will be no internal strife within the Mongol Empire, and that they will not be halted by sea (they will have a powerful navy).

We will begin with **France**, which was, at the time, the most powerful nation in Western Europe. The Mongols will first and foremost ally with the Holy Roman Empire and England, both longtime enemies of France, and will make use of their expertise in espionage to their fullest extent. Once they have all the information they need, they will launch a multi-pronged invasion with the speed of lightning, by both land and sea. The French will be quickly overwhelmed, and their armies will be decimated by the Mongol hordes. The nation of France will be dissolved, and the Mongols will establish the "French Khanate" as a vassal state.

Next in line would be **Spain and Portugal**, which at the time were in a state of turmoil due to the Reconquista, a war against the Moors who had taken over the Iberian Peninsula centuries prior. The Christians and the Moors would both be quickly overwhelmed, and the Iberian Khanate would be established.

The **Italian City States** would be a little bit harder to conquer due to the mountainous terrain, but the Mongols were experts at navigating such terrain, and this would prove to be the downfall of Italy. The Italian City States were also divided among each other, which would lead to some of them becoming Mongol vassals. The Italian Khanate would be established, and the capital would be Rome.

The **Byzantine Empire** would be the next to fall. The Byzantines were a shadow of what they once were, so the Mongols would have no trouble in conquering them. The capital, Constantinople, would fall in a matter of days, and it would become the capital of the Mongol Empire, signaling the end of both the Roman and the Mongol Empires.

The Mongols would begin a systematic campaign of assimilation of the conquered peoples, who would adopt the Mongolian language and writing system, as well as the Mongolian customs and way of life. In time, the conquered peoples would lose their individual identities. The systems of writing of the conquered peoples would be banned, and even the Christian religion would be banned, in favor of animism and shamanism.

Over time, both the Roman Empire and the Mongol Empire would fade into legend, and the world would become a very different place, culturally and politically. Let me know in the comments what you think would happen if the Mongols conquered all of Europe.

Have a great day, and happy worldbuilding.
