So I am a minimalist and an atheist, but also a first time homeowner. I want to decorate my first home for Christmas despite being an atheist because it looks fun and nice. However, I don’t want to buy an artificial tree and then have to throw it away when I die. I also don’t want to waste a tree if I choose a real one.I’ve seen pictures of trees made from cardboard. Are people using these? How do they hold up? Any other ideas?

Edit: Thank you all for your responses and ideas! You don’t understand how great it is to have such an amazing community to reach out to. Yes, I have considered a tiny potted tree that I can replant. I’ve also thought about just a sprig of rosemary. And a vase of evergreen branches. This is a great community!

Edit part 2: I ended up getting a small potted evergreen. I may need to replant it in the spring depending on the size. I repotted it and it’s sitting on my front porch. I’ll post a picture of it in the minimalism sub reddit.
