If you're new to anime then what anime would you start with?

So I'm going to buy a subscription to crunchyroll for my friend as a gift and I was wondering what would be a good anime to start with. They've never really watched anime outside of Dragon Ball and are kinda skeptical of it. So I want to start with something really good and hit all the right notes. Any recommendations?
