I was a victim of a home burglary and rather than upsetting me it made me more grateful for the few possessions I do have

We’ve been dealing with some pretty strange weather in my area and it down poured. I was out walking the dog and came home to rather wet shoes. So I opened the door to take my boots off and set them to dry. When I looked up, I noticed my tv laying on the ground but didn’t think much of it because I thought the cat had maybe knocked it off. I walked into the kitchen and saw that the back door was wide open which immediately concerned me. I checked my wallet and my safe and both are there. I did some investigating and realized that the intruder came in through the back door when I was out walking the dog and knocked the tv off the entertainment center and it broke.

The weird thing is that I would have been home had it not been raining. I keep the TV in my living room and rather than a coffee table I have a big wooden chest that houses all of my video games, controllers, and board games. I’m assuming they tried to open it and were surprised to find how heavy it was. I’m not sure how they didn’t see me leaving to walk the dog but thankfully they didn’t stick around. I think what bothers me the most is that they didn’t steal anything which makes me think they were looking to harm me or someone if they were to encounter them. I did call the police and filed a report but they didn’t take any prints because they were wearing gloves.

Anyway, I was just sitting in my bedroom thinking about everything I’m grateful for and that includes my tv because I was able to purchase it because my grandma left me some money when she passed away. It’s not just a tv. I’ll always have the memory of her attached to it. I’m also grateful for my dog because the greatest fear of mine is that they would have been violent with him if he had been there. I guess the scary part is that the police found a piece of their clothing caught in the window and when they pulled on it, it came right out. They clearly didn’t think they would be caught and will be back. So the house will be rather secure for now. I’m also grateful for my mom and dad because they were kind enough to lend me some money to put cameras and lights around the house. I’m grateful for the rain because I happened to be out walking the dog when they were there and didn’t run into them.

Anyway, I just wanted to express my gratitude for the things I have in my life. It brought me to tears thinking about all the good things in my life that I often overlook.
