A word of advice for new gun owners, who live in a state with a "permitless" carry law

Don't. Just don't. I'm telling you this, as a sheriff who will investigate your death. Nobody wants to die. The scariest sound you'll ever hear is the shot being fired that kills or maims you. I've seen the "I'll just pull it if I need to" attitude destroy families, relationships, and lives. I've seen the "I'll just pull it if I need to" attitude turn a life or death situation into a death sentence. If you can't take a couple of hours out of your life to attend the mandatory training, then maybe you shouldn't carry a weapon. If you can't take a couple of hours out of your life to learn about the laws governing the weapon you own, then maybe you shouldn't carry a weapon. Don't be stupid, don't be lazy, take the training, and know the laws.
