ELI5: How did France get the name "France"?

EDIT: This is the "official" story and it is very likely to be true. The thing is, it has been over 1500 years since the Franks last roamed. So we can only speculate and piece together to try and get close to the truth.<br><br>One thing that is almost certain is that the name "France" is linked to Charlemagne as he united the land and gave it a name. <br><br>Some say that the name came from the way the French used to refer to the land as "frank" as the name means "free" (in an old language). <br><br>Other still might say that it was because a group of people called the "Franks" came and changed the name of the land.<br><br>These are the most likely explanations, but it's basically impossible to tell for sure.
